Controversy Over Borrowed Power Tools
Her neighbor Lori came over for coffee as she usually did once a day. Lynn asked her if John still had Clark’s mcculloch chainsaw. Lori said she would look in the garage when she got home. They shared a second cup of coffee and a talked about cutting up wood for the winter. Lori agreed, John would have to cut some for them before too long.
Lynn hoped he wouldn’t forget. He had kept it way longer than he should have already. But why complain to Lori. She was only married to the guy and had her own problems with John. She thought John was a prince, which was not at all true. He was less than considerate. He never even picked up his own socks according to Lori. Would he clean up anything around the house? No, he never would.
Now Clark was a guy who was thoughtful and helped her out at least half the time. She smiled at Lori and secretly thought about how much luckier she was to have Clark. Lori said she’d have John stop over Saturday morning with the chainsaw. Thanks Lori, she said. They had a slice of lemon cake before they said, see you later.
She decided to start dinner. First she got out her electric rice cooker and set it on the counter. Measuring out the rice and water she thought about how good chocolate cake would be for dinner. After the rice started cooking, she seasoned the chicken and put it in the oven to bake. She grabbed a can of corn for a vegetable and made a salad. Clark was getting out of work right about now.
She went over to her kitchenaid hand mixer to start mixing the ingredients for blueberry muffins. They both had a taste for them and besides blueberries contain lots of antioxidants. Healthy food was important to both of them. She heard a car door slam and waited for Clark to come in from the garage. He kissed the back of her neck after walking across the kitchen.
They chatted amicably as she got the cake into the oven and the chicken out. She told him about what Lori said about his chainsaw. He said if John didn’t bring it back Saturday he would just go over and ask for it. They enjoyed a dinner of chicken and rice and decided to have cake a little later on. Both were too full right now.
After dinner, they played some physically challenging games on the Wii. He won this time. Lynn told him she’d win next time. Bowling was not her big skill in life after all. They settled on the couch to watch a movie and the news. Then it was off to bed because the next day was another workday. Those muffins were good, murmured as they drifted off to sleep.
